Moon Beans

I have discovered the joy that is spending a Sunday afternoon working at Moon Beans, the independent coffee shop in McAllen. Today four of us sat around a big table with our laptops, sipping yummy iced drinks like vanilla chai and collaborating on various work projects. It was a great environment to be in, very conducive to productivity and highly enjoyable. I think we’ll plan on making it a Sunday tradition. Lord knows there’s a lot of work to be done this year, and having friends to work with certainly makes it bearable.

In other news…school starts to tomorrow. Of course, I’ve been working since June, but the new students arrive for a week of “Culture Camp” tomorrow before we go into two weeks of half-day summer school. First “official” day is August 28 but the students will have been coming to school for half-days for three weeks prior to that! Yet another of the many, many reasons I love IDEA.

I’ll be spending most of the morning at UTPA, helping the Quest teachers and staff get situated. Since their buildings aren’t ready at the new site yet, they’ll be having at least some of summer school at the university. It will be interesting to see how things develop.
